MUPolo BeerPong Tournament

March 26, 2010 6:00 pmtoMarch 27, 2010 2:00 am

Ladies & Gentlemen,

The first social event for the 2010 MUPolo calendar has been decided, and what better way to kick of the 2010 Melbourne Uni Water Polo season than Beer Pong Tournament!

For those of you who have never heard of Beer Pong – you are about to have your eyes opened to an entirely different realm of sport. Beer Pong is a drinking game in which players throw a ping-pong ball across a table with the intent of landing the ball in a cup of beer/alcoholic beverage on the other end. The game typically consists of two two-to-four-player teams and multiple cups set up on each side set up in triangle formation.

The goal of the game is to eliminate the other teams’ cups before one’s own cups are eliminated. When a ball lands in a cup, which is generally 1/3 full, that cup is eliminated and the defending team must consume all of the beer/alcoholic beverage inside that cup and any other cups knocked over.

So there you have it, a simple yet beautiful and highly entertaining game for both the competitors & the spectators.

An appropriate venue is still being decided however keep this date free for what promises to be an outrageous night of competition for all members.

All are welcome and teams will be randomly drawn on the night so rsvp for what is no doubt going to be one of the most memorable nights in the 2010 MUPolo calendar!

Melbourne University Water Polo Club – AGM 2007

It was a night so international and so complete that we would have truly felt at home anywhere on earth. And yet there is only one place where we could truly be at home. That place, friends, is PA’s, or the Prince Alfred Hotel in Richmond.

There was high debauchery, there was tales of old regaled at high-speed, there were tears and plenty of jokes were made with a blatant disregard for all things race or sex related. New friends allied with old and many bonds were formed. Some players spoke of dark times when assaults had been committed or personal liberties impinged but all in all it was a special time.

There was a serious side to the proceedings though and this was the club elections. After some heated voting, a stabbing and many applicants vying for all positions, an agreement was made and positions were established. (more…)

Australian University Games Pot and Parma Night 2005

A new tradition was created at MUPolo on Friday the 9th of September 2005. The inaugural “AUG Pot and Parma” night, taking place at the lovely establishment known as The Clare Castle Hotel in Carlton. It involved all the team members of the Australian University Games men’s and women’s team coming together to enjoy large amounts of beer and oversized chicken parma’s.

Friday night and the good folk of the Clare Castle were bracing themselves for an onslaught the likes of which they had never seen. The early signs showed no indication of what was to come. Two portly middle aged men strolled in, in their suits, but they were soon joined by a marauding group of youthful drunks. As the kitchen battled to produce thirty Parmigiana, the bar tenders heaved and wheezed under the strain of the demand for amber fluid. (more…)

Melbourne University Water Polo Champions Ball 2005

The Water Polo Ball for 2005 was lots and lots of fun. Some people were even drunk. The night was held at a place called the Melbourne Rowing club, and this is one of the finest establishments in Melbourne. Around 200 people turned up for a night of festivity and a lovely pre-up to the AUG (AUG stand for Australian University Games, this year they were held in Brisbane). It all started at 8 o’clock and people came in droves. I am really struggling for things to say because I was in such high spirits and got so excited that I forgot a lot of stuff that may or may not have happened. Basically everyone was there, and so many of the girls looked so good, and not just our girls, oh no, there was more and oh so many more. So many. Anyhoo one in particular looked amazing, and if you’re reading this. Hey baby, you want to catch up later? (more…)
