2010 MUPolo Winter Competition Newsletter (Round 1)

2010 MUPolo Winter Competition Newsletter (Round 1)

Welcome to the first installment of the Melbourne University Water Polo Clubs 2010 VicPolo Winter Competition Newsletter.

This is a new initiative the Club is implementing to keep everyone informed on how our playing members are going in the current VicPolo Competition.

Round 1 Results
This week was the first round of the 2010 Victorian Water Polo Inc Winter Competition and the Club had a total of six teams representing Melbourne University. The MUPolo teams who played had a mixed bag of results with two wins and four losses, with all games being highly competitive.

As with the start of any newly created teams, there is an inevitable “teething” period where players learn to play together and team camaraderie is built. This we are sure will be quickly achieved. MUPolo, like you, are hoping this translates to team success and more importantly making water polo fun for all our players.

Please find below a summary of the teams results for the first round:

Men’s State League 2 Blues

  • MUPolo (6) defeated MC Blackballs (5)

Men’s State League 2 Blacks

  • MUPolo (3) defeated by Footscray (8)

Women’s State League 2

  • MUPolo (1) defeated by Footscray (6)

Women’s State League 3

  • MUPolo (9) defeated Monash University Blues (1)

Men’s State League 4

  • MUPolo (7) defeated by Ringwood Black (9)

Men’s State League 5

  • MUPolo (5) defeated by La Trobe University (9)

So thanks to all our players who represented the club in this opening round and we look forward to more great results in Round 2!

2010 MUPolo AGM

April 16, 2010 8:00 pmtoApril 17, 2010 1:00 am

It is that time of the year again where the Melbourne University Water Polo Club needs all its members to come along, get involved and elect a new committee for 2010 – that’s right; it’s time for the 2010 MUPolo AGM.  And whilst many may think that AGM’s are boring events that are not worth going to, here at MUPolo we pride ourselves on getting the formality of the evening over an done with as quickly as possible (club record being 14 minutes) so as all our members can enjoy the social side of the evening over plenty of icy cold alcoholic beverages (limited drink will be provided by the club).

The 2010 MUPolo AGM is a great way to meet all the playing & non-playing members of the club, as well as your way to help shape your club for the next year by electing & voting in the new committee for 2010. And as with every year, the AGM will run at the start of the evening so as we can get on with the more enjoyable events of the evening like celebrating the opening round of the 2010 Victorian Water Polo Winter Competition which will start on the following week.

So come down to the Queensberry Hotel (593 Swanston St, Carlton VIC 3053) this coming Friday the 16th of April, 2010 at 8pm for what promises to be another classic MUPolo AGM & night out. You’ll get to meet and get to know all your teammates who you’ll be playing with this Winter Competition as well as all the other clubs members. Look forward to seeing you all there!

MUPolo BeerPong Tournament

March 26, 2010 6:00 pmtoMarch 27, 2010 2:00 am

Ladies & Gentlemen,

The first social event for the 2010 MUPolo calendar has been decided, and what better way to kick of the 2010 Melbourne Uni Water Polo season than Beer Pong Tournament!

For those of you who have never heard of Beer Pong – you are about to have your eyes opened to an entirely different realm of sport. Beer Pong is a drinking game in which players throw a ping-pong ball across a table with the intent of landing the ball in a cup of beer/alcoholic beverage on the other end. The game typically consists of two two-to-four-player teams and multiple cups set up on each side set up in triangle formation.

The goal of the game is to eliminate the other teams’ cups before one’s own cups are eliminated. When a ball lands in a cup, which is generally 1/3 full, that cup is eliminated and the defending team must consume all of the beer/alcoholic beverage inside that cup and any other cups knocked over.

So there you have it, a simple yet beautiful and highly entertaining game for both the competitors & the spectators.

An appropriate venue is still being decided however keep this date free for what promises to be an outrageous night of competition for all members.

All are welcome and teams will be randomly drawn on the night so rsvp for what is no doubt going to be one of the most memorable nights in the 2010 MUPolo calendar!

  • Time: 6pm onwards
  • Deals:
    • $12 Chicken Parmigiana with chips and salad
    • $15 Beer battered Fish and Chips with tartare sauce and salad
    • $14 Jugs of beer (7 beers on tap)
